Spaghetti Snob

One afternoon, we visited another Filipino family here in Toronto. After a bit of chit chat, it was time to eat. Our host excitedly served us. "I made spaghetti. It's sweet, so Pinoy!"

Rama looks at her plate. "Ayoko ng may hotdog." Uh-oh. So I pick out the hotdog bits. She takes a bite. She doesn't like it, won't eat it.

I make her a fresh plate: just noodles, olive oil, parmesan. And a few olives. She laps it up.

My friend took it very kindly: Ok itong anak mo ha. Matipid!

Rama's really a gourmet! I have a HUGE sweet tooth, but I could never understand this Pinoy sweet spaghetti -- especially the kind made with ketchup!

Hi Nicely. You should really try it. It's a refreshing change from the usual heavy pasta sauces. If not olive oil, ok na rin butter.

Thanks for dropping in, Bexieville. :-)

Hey katrina! Pinoy sweet spag - maybe you have to be in a jollibee sorta mood for it. :-)

Hey, Jing. You can't beat simple sauces for taste - and if you make it yourself, way cheaper than pinoy party! Shabby chic!

i just want to say your blog name is way cool. and your parenting style, even cooler. might i suggest a book on Rama's witty comments? published in Manila of course, as only true-blue Pinoys will get the humor. :)

Aw, sweet of you, ragamuffin girl. i have been thinking of translating the quips here into english, for a wider audience (kuning!) And a DIY book would be a nice gesture for Rama - I would present it to her on a significant birthday (18? 16?), with her pix and all. Just a reminder of her fabulousity. :-)
